Thank you so much for your insight and very practical advice about trade shows. It is very appreciated! It is always a question for new independent labels to take the financial plunge into the trade show world, so your information is so helpful!! I myself took the plunge years ago at the New York Javitz Center. As a new entrant, I got lousy space and very few buyers were willing to go down the aisle. Similar to retail business, location is key. I did receive positive press in a few trade magazines, but none of it resulted in sales. It boiled down to desperation time for me as the cost to attend the event was more than 4k for a small space, fixtures, decoration, printed materials, transportation, lodging etc. I wrangled buyers to come down our aisle and hustled some sales that way, but if I hadn't actively left my booth to direct traffic to my lonely aisle, there would have been very little activity. I considered it an expensive lesson I had to pay for, as I knew nothing about the trade show side of my wholesale business and needed to experience it first hand. It has made me gun-shy about going again though as I have managed to develop a locally based business and approach stores I feel my product would be a good fit in, and have managed a very good volume business in this manner. But, this process can be challenging as many buyers do not like to be contacted outside of trade shows. All in all, being an entrepreneur is a hussle, but these tips on trade shows are very valuable and practical, and I thank you for sharing your experience for other entrepreneurs!!

That is horrible, I knew they were hurting for money, but this will hinder small busniess sales wich will kill jobs and effect the market more.

unfortunately i will not be able to mostly due to the number of submissions and i will be offering the book for about what it costs to make. i will be offering everyone the ability to pick up as many copies as they'd like at cost, but with 80 free boks possibly and all of the shipping it would heavily outweigh the small profits from the sale of the book. if it costs $3 to make, i will be selling it for $5, etc and that basically just covers the mailer and such. not trying to make money off of this but just have some fun and give back.

Wow, thanks for sharing this info. I'm about to apply and I was wondering how it was.
I was thinking to choose only the cash and carry table option and not a booth. It's only 850$ but all you have is a table. I sell jewelry. Any thoughts on that? thanks!
